What is an Estuary?
An estuary is a semi-enclosed coastal body of water that is connection to the open sea.
Estuaries can be found in many different places, for example, the Amazon River Estuary located in South America, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean. Also there is the Obi (Ob) River, located in Russia, has one of the longest estuaries in the world. There also is the Peel-Harvey estuarine system, which is a single shallow estuary located approximately 70 km south of Perth in Western Australia. The Peel-Harvey Estuarine system receives water from three major river systems, the Serpentine, Murray and Harvey Rivers.
Florida's Crystal River Estuary has a temperate climate which means it has four seasons
The Amazon river estuary has a tropical climate which means it only has two seasons
Estuaries are generally sorted into two different climates, the tropical climate and the temperate climate. The Amazon River estuary has a tropical climate, which means it only has two seasons, the wet and humid season and the dry and cool season, during the wet and humid season, the average temperature is about 32 degrees Celsius. during the drier, cooler season, it is about 23 degrees Celsius. The Amazon estuary extends more than 190 miles (300 km) inland from the river’s mouth to an area southwest of the city of MacapÃ. The estuary is partly filled by many low-lying, forested islands. The amount of precipitation in the tropical estuary is 125 to 660 centimeters (50 to 260 inches) yearly.
tropical estuaries humid season or dry season
tropical estuaries wet season or rainy season
The temperate estuaries like Florida's Crystal River Estuary have four seasons, winter, spring, summer, and fall. The average temperature in the summer at the Crystal River Estuary is 28-32 degrees Celsius, in the fall it is around 24 degrees Celsius. Winter there, is around 14-16 degrees, and spring is around 24-26 degrees Celsius. The average precipitation in the fall is about 7.6 centimeters, in the winter it is about 6 centimeters. Spring has an average of 10 centimeters of rain, and there is about 19 centimeters in the summer. there are variations between estuary locations like the different plants that grow in that particular climate.
